Description

The history of Galatsi, from its creation as an Athenian settlement in the early 1900s, to the present day - up until 1974 in this volume - unfolds in the pages of this book.
What was the area like in the early 20th century?
When and from where did the first settlers come?
Why did they choose Galatsi and how were they able to establish themselves on the rock?
What were their occupations and what are the marks they left behind?
How did the current urban situation that troubles us arise?
How did the name Galatsi come about and when did it start being used?
How did the large estates come about?

(from the author's note)
...I turned back a century, to the residential beginnings of this particular area, and began to search for how the region was, who first inhabited it and where they came from, why they chose it as their residence, the difficulties of their settlement, their occupations, how the name Galatsi came about. How they awakened and transformed an untouched natural environment into an urban space. What marks they left in their wake. What was saved, what was destroyed, and why. Lastly, I followed what gave birth to the idea of this book, summarized in the question: Could Galatsi have been different? More humane? Thus, I opened myself up to delve deep and observe Galatsi from its beginnings and the Galatsiotes who "discovered" and "conquered" it.
