Today, western countries are trapped in a deadlock of stagnation, self-loathing, and hypersensitivity. In addition to economic and institutional upheavals, they face the consequences of their immigration policies and multicultural management practices that they have implemented since the late 1950s.
These consequences are exacerbated by the international conjuncture, the resurgence of Islamofascism, and the conflict between the East and the West. Within Western democracies, multicultural practices - as well as the corresponding theoretical perceptions - have led to the creation of closed minorities that are isolated from the main social and cultural core, resulting in fragmentation, mistrust among social groups, hostility, and violent confrontations. While Islamic fundamentalism develops in various forms and religious intolerance and obscurantism are transferred and cultivated in the West, the governments of Western countries persist in a multicultural program based on social complacency and self-blindness. This complacency is disrupted by the emerging trend of power shifting from social democratic parties to far-right or right-wing parties, because they show skepticism not only towards immigration policy but also towards the policy against Islamofascism. Indeed, skeptical parties - often skeptical towards the European Union and globalization as well - gain ground, although they are wrong in almost everything. However, they are right in that the West is threatened by the warlike Islam while simultaneously self-destructing by betraying its values.
This essay comments on the republican values on which the rule of law is based, argues in favor of controlled immigration that does not undermine social cohesion, and criticizes multiculturalism as a practice of fragmentation and weakening of democratic institutions.
Finally, it proposes a way to address the problems based on recognizing the contribution of immigrants to the economy, as well as their desire to integrate into society by accepting Western laws and values.
