Description

NAS of the company Western Digital. It is of type Tower and is mainly intended for home use. NAS devices are devices that host hard drives, greatly assisting in secure data storage and are directly connected to the Router. They create a personal cloud and make files accessible from any device you have without worrying about the storage space of each device. They emphasize on creating backups, which is done automatically through settings, and on entertainment as they can reproduce content on any device that has access to them and from anywhere.

This model consists of the Marvell ARMADA 388 processor. with 2GB RAM DDR3. It incorporates additional ports such as USB to connect devices such as printers, USB sticks, etc., and HDMI for direct connection to a monitor or TV. It also includes 2 Ethernet ports. The additional Ethernet ports are mainly used for higher transfer speed or simple backup. It does not have built-in hard drives, which means you will need to add your own. It supports up to 4 disk units HDD.

It supports Raid 0, 1, 5, JBOD, 10 capability. RAID 0 is used only for speed purposes as the speed of all disks is added, and not for backup. If even one disk is destroyed, all data is lost. RAID 1 is the replication of one disk to another. Whatever is written on one disk is automatically written on the other. Also, if one disk is destroyed, the system will continue to function normally, but you will need to add a new disk to start the process of copying the healthy disk to the new one. JBOD refers to Apple systems. If 2 or more disks are used, the formatted space will be added. If one disk fails, it is possible to recover the remaining data from the other disks. RAID 5 requires at least 3 disks to be created. If one of the 3 fails, the same will not happen to your data.

The ultimate NAS for home users as well as small businesses for personal Cloud and Back-up server.

Basically, what someone needs to pay attention to is that this particular NAS is not suitable for users who do not have basic computer knowledge, as it does not come ready to use out of the box like the corresponding My Home Cloud from Western Digital. The user will need to do the initial setup for all or whichever "services" they want to activate. I didn't want to put in the question "Is it easy to install - so-so or not" because it doesn't deserve it if you think about how it is not intended for beginner users.

What I really like is the RAID options it offers; it has the capability for RAID 0/1/5/10, JBOD, and Spanning. Specifically, because I use it for personal Cloud instead of Google Drive, I have set it to Spanning.

The other thing I really like is the ease of managing both files and users. Specifically, you can set a limit on how much space each user can use. That is, you can have 6 users and have installed 12TB and set three of them to have 3TB, and the other three to have 1TB each. As for the mobile/tablet app, it is very good, and you can manage all files and all types. You can also choose which folders to share among users and third parties.

You can monitor the status of the disks, so if a disk is about to "fail," you can see it or it will notify you (if you have installed the utilities). This way, you can prevent disaster and transfer files early.

It can also work with Aggregation Link for 2Gbps speed. This means it can read and write very quickly without users getting stuck when they want to access it via the internet simultaneously. However, one must be careful as this depends on the disks, the modem/router, and the connection speed. That is, if the hard drives have a speed of 5400 RPM, the modem/router does not support Aggregation Link, and the connection is ADSL 24, then it will lag. I have four WD Red Pro 7200rpm 128MB buffer, Cosmote VDSL 100, and the Asus RT AC88U, so I have no speed issues.

In terms of stability, it is flawless. It hasn't frozen in the three months I've had it; I haven't restarted it. Only once when WD released a firmware update.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Pros:
    - Capability for multiple users
    - Fast internet access speeds.
    - Stability in operation and silent.
    - Ease of managing files and users.
    - Supports RAID 0/1/5/10, JBOD, Spanning, and Hot Plug.
    - Can also work as a Media Streamer.
    ========================================
    Cons (let's say now)
    - High price.
    - Not immediate operation out of the box. Requires user programming.
