Description

Inspector Patrick returns to work after a sick leave. He tried to rest and take care of his wife with their two premature twin babies.
He barely sets foot in the police station when a new investigation begins. A man is found murdered in his apartment. He has been shot at the base of his head.
The victim is Mats Sverin, the financial manager of the municipal council, a friendly and likable guy. No one has anything against him.
Patrick will map out his life, which hid secrets beyond any suspicion. Why was he in such a hurry to leave Gothenburg and return to Fjällbacka? What role did he play in the conversion of the old Fjällbacka bathhouse into a spa? Is it a coincidence that his childhood sweetheart, Annie, has also returned to Fjällbacka?

Having read most of Läckberg's books, I can say that this one did not particularly impress me. Although it touches on important issues such as domestic violence, drug trafficking, and economic corruption, I believe that the unnecessary verbosity with parallel unfolding stories (as she is accustomed to in her books but with a different mastery) made me lose the essence of the plot. However, I liked the way she presented the end of the book, although it would not be the first book I would recommend to someone who has not read this author again.
