Undoubtedly, the basic sciences, such as Physics, constitute the foundation of the knowledge structure of Medicine. It is obvious that the physical principles that govern the functions of the human body, as well as the applications of Physics for the discovery, shaping, and optimization of various diagnostic and therapeutic methods and techniques, form the basis for the understanding and evolution of Medical science.

However, very few times these obvious facts are immediately understood by some individuals who express the counterargument of the "usefulness" of the Basic Sciences within an increasingly growing body of knowledge that needs to be acquired during undergraduate studies.

This critique has been answered, years ago, by the German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer with his phrase: "Whoever loses the first buttonhole, can never button up". Also, those who, years later after their academic studies, dive back into the depths of Medical Physics to understand and solve everyday problems of medical practices, answer daily. This textbook was created to fill a bibliographic gap.

Its purpose is neither the exhaustive study of physical phenomena and principles, nor the thorough study of the technology of modern diagnostic and therapeutic techniques. Its aim is to document the latest developments from a Physics perspective, so that besides understanding them, the reader can acquire the necessary background for the integration of the rapid advancements that constantly arise from the evolution of Medicine and technology.
