The ongoing shortfall in government revenues is eroding hopes that the Greek economy can enter a phase of stabilization. A year ago, when the markets stopped lending to us, the country owed 310 billion euros. Today it owes 350 billion, and by the end of the year the debt will reach 370 billion. Until the end of May, the government claimed that in early 2012 we would go to the markets to seek loans. Who in their right mind believed such a monstrous lie? Unfortunately, the numbers are merciless and confirm the worst predictions. Most people talk about public debt. However, the monster that is about to annihilate us is the state deficits. Because even if our lenders forgave the debt, the deficits would soon create new debt! The gambler is not redeemed if someone covers his debts. Redemption comes only when he is freed from his bad habit or departs to the Lord. So, we are all caught in the whirlpool of overindebtedness, from which it does not seem easy to escape.
