Description

Reforms in a free nation are not imposed by force (or by the temporary majority), they are its voluntary choice. Otherwise, they are difficult to take root and bear fruit, they resemble the fir tree in the sand that withers and fades. The "ecology of reforms" has its rules and principles, especially if it concerns not only technological changes, but also changes in institutions, mentality and traditions, customs and habits of a people and a society.

Something similar applies, however, to counter-reforms; they express behaviors and perceptions dogmatically attached like the oyster on the rock of yesterday, unable to realize that things have changed and the time when they believed it would last forever has passed. Stagnation is equivalent to futility, when the flow of history sweeps everything in its passage.

Here, therefore, is our Greek "tragedy" - a regression between reforms, which are often perceived by their supporters or opponents as revolutions when they are not, and counter-reforms, which sometimes perpetuate the tradition and mentality of the older in the newer, the indigenous and familiar in the urgent and unfamiliar, and sometimes present themselves as a shield of protection for the weakest and most vulnerable against the most advanced weapons of the powerful that advance relentlessly.
