Description

In September 1967, young Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Mario Vargas Llosa met in Lima to discuss Latin American literature. The former had already sold thousands of copies of the novel One Hundred Years of Solitude. The latter had just been honored with the Rómulo Gallegos Prize for The Green House.

Today, they are considered prominent representatives of Spanish-language literature worldwide, but at that time they were two young people starting their careers as novelists. In this book, two authors, two literary geniuses, two different ways of understanding literature, two somewhat incompatible temperaments, and two different narrative styles are juxtaposed. And while a great literary movement seems to be emerging on the horizon, readers become witnesses to an unprecedented dialogue.

The edition includes texts by Juan Gabriel Vásquez, Luis Rodriguez Pastor, José Miguel Oviedo, Abelardo Sanchez Leon, and Ricardo González Vigil, who were witnesses to this dialogue, as well as two interviews with the Colombian author, rare photographs, and an assessment of the life and work of Marquez by Vargas Llosa.
