Hermes, Plato, Aristotle, and the other philosophers, who flourished in different times, introduced the arts, especially exploring the secrets of the lower Creation. All of them sought diligently for a means by which the human body could be protected from decay and endowed with immortality. To them, the answer was given that there is nothing that can redeem the mortal body from death, but there is One Thing that can delay decay, renew youth, and prolong human life (as happened with the Patriarchs). For death fell as a punishment upon our first parents, Adam and Eve, and it will never be removed from their descendants. Therefore, the above-mentioned philosophers, and many others, sought this One Thing with great effort, and found that what preserves the human body from corruption and prolongs life behaves, in relation to the other elements, as if it resembled the Heavens. From this, they concluded that the Heavens are a substance beyond the Four Elements. And just as the Heavens, in relation to the other elements, are considered the fifth essence.
