Description

Peras 1955-1964.

A Greek neighborhood in the heart of the City, where Greeks and Ottomans coexist harmoniously, dream, love, fall in love, and develop strong bonds of friendship. Among them, the kind-hearted Ismail with his coffee shop, the solitary Isidoros buried in the dust of his books, the lascivious Aïsé who leaves behind a child, the aristocrat Kallianthi, Nantir who desires Asliv, Essin who will change her fate, and the old Yasmine with Yusuf form a troupe that wanders through the alleys of the City, in the coffee shops and hammams, in the brothels, in the waters of the Bosphorus, and in the memories of homelands that were once lost or exchanged. And while one feels that people continue to coexist harmoniously in the multicultural scene of the City, clouds of nationalism gather on the horizon. The September events and the deportations of '64 will change the lives of the heroes and the City forever.

A story about an entire era, wrapped in the smoke and scents of the East, and about a cosmopolitanism that is fading away. A novel about the passions of people in the gears of History, a text about the power of love and humanity that withstands time.
