Description

Alchemy was considered the answer to all the kingdom's ailments and became a widely practiced throughout the country, with the inhabitants accepting it and using it to improve and cure whatever they deemed necessary. When the price of alchemy became excessively high, attempts were made to stop its use, each one more unsuccessful than the other, with the devastating consequences being felt throughout the entire kingdom. Within a few days, the kingdom fell into chaos, contaminated monsters roamed the blood-stained streets, while every hope for a cure was lost. Corvus is the kingdom's last hope, the fate of Hermes lies in his hands. The truth is buried deep within the memories left by Corvus scattered throughout the world, and only by collecting these lost memories can the kingdom be saved, but every time he dives back in, trying to piece together the truth, all he finds is more secrets.

Thymesia is a combination of Sekiro and Bloodborne in an indie AA game.
You control a mysterious Plague Doctor in a world dominated by alchemy, but an epidemic has appeared that kills or distorts humans and animals. Your character has lost his memory and the game takes the form of memories for events that have already happened. The story is not its strong point, mainly because the game does not have Voice Acting, despite the fact that many characters speak as if it does. You learn the details mainly from notes that you find here and there, which the game often considers worth the reward when you deviate from the path.

Like all Souls-like games, you collect memories (souls) by killing enemies that drop them at the point where you died if you die, and you use them to upgrade your character. You have Talents that improve or change gameplay and you can change them whenever you want. You have healing that replenishes at rest points. Enemies respawn when you die or sit at a rest point, except for the elites.
The difference from other games of its kind is that here enemies essentially have 2 Lifebars and you have two types of Attacks. When you hit with your sword, you open wounds, reducing the white Lifebar, revealing the green one behind it. By hitting them afterwards with the claw, you damage the green Lifebar, which is what needs to be depleted to defeat the enemy. If you leave the green Lifebar, the wounds will close and it will turn white again, so you have to constantly apply pressure. Even when enemies fall, they require another hit to die properly, otherwise they heal.
Finally, there are plague weapons, which you steal from enemies when you perform a full Claw attack on them, and you can use them once. If you do it multiple times on the same type of enemy, there is a chance that they will drop skill shards for that weapon, so you can upgrade it and use it indefinitely as magic.

The game is small, with about 3 main large levels that you can complete in about 10 hours. However, each level you defeat opens up sub quests that reuse areas of the level, but at the same time often have new locations, enemies, and bosses that are often better than the main ones. The endings you can achieve depend on these quests, as if you go straight to the end, you will only be able to achieve the bad ending.

The game is a pure souls-like that emphasizes gameplay, but in other areas such as cut-scenes and level variety, it appears unfinished. However, it is ideal for its value of €25.

This review is about a variation of the product

Very good Soulslike. Atmosphere, feeling when dodging but also story elements from bloodborne, not of course at the same levels but fine for a title from a small indie studio. Gameplay with parry feeling from sekiro. Addictive gameplay for fans of Soulslike games but not only.
