It is paradoxical how little people are willing to do today for the things they say they desire greatly. They have not stopped declaring that they would like to experience love. If one listens to them more carefully, one will understand what they really mean: they mean for a feeling to come from somewhere that will surround them with favors, with care, with caresses towards the self that will receive them as if they were owed from the past. They expect to be loved as they expect to use the qualities of a helpful thing that is added to their household. This is also the confusion between "I like" and "I love".

From this point begins a withering that corrodes all feelings, thoughts, decisions. The forces of inertia would like to kill love and affection so that they do not remind people that life is ready to conceive, if they wish, and to leave behind some works. Unable to desire anything else, humanity seems to want to embrace death. It can reach suicide violently, through destructiveness. However, it can also move towards the same end quietly, sluggishly, through small pleasures. What could prevent such an ignoble end?
