Truth, what did you have for breakfast? What clothes did you wear to go to work? What movie did you choose to watch at night? And, since we're talking openly, how did you choose the profession you do, your partner or the party you vote for? Why were these your choices and not others? These are some questions that seem easy. Were these not your personal preferences? Were they not due to what you considered tasty and nutritious, comfortable, pleasant, interesting, charming, or socially responsible? It's so obvious that there's no reason to discuss it. Isn't it? And yet…

Without realizing it, other people have a huge influence on every aspect of our lives. We go to vote because others go, we eat more when others eat, we donate ?and even break the law!? when our friends do, and we feel satisfied with our work when our colleagues feel the same way. 99.9% of all our decisions are shaped by other people. It's almost impossible to identify even one decision or behavior that is not influenced by our social environment.
However, we are not puppets of others. How the social environment affects us is something we can understand, accept, or reject. In other words, it is possible to some extent to control this influence.
