Description

How to reclaim our lives in a world where narcissism, the demand for special treatment, and toxic relationships abound. The phrase "Do you know who I am?" is a way of life for the famous and infamous, who believe that the world "owes them." It is the syndrome of the modern narcissist. Health and wellness campaigns urge us to avoid unhealthy foods, sedentary lifestyles, smoking, alcohol, and drugs, but rarely do they warn us to protect ourselves from unhealthy, difficult, and toxic people. And yet, removing toxic individuals from our lives can greatly benefit both our physical and mental health. We need to learn to better protect our minds, bodies, and souls. Narcissism, the demand for special treatment and privileges, and rudeness have become the new order of things. Not only are they perceived as normal, but they are also promoted as examples to be imitated. These characteristics are an expression of pathological insecurity, experienced both at an individual and societal level. The paradox is that we value these standards. We praise them on social media and in the context of consumerism, and we often encounter them in politicians, leaders, academics, and journalists. Few lives remain untouched by narcissism. These relationships "contaminate" us with doubt, despair, confusion, anxiety, depression, and a chronic sense of inadequacy, making us vulnerable and weak, and making it very difficult to distance ourselves or set boundaries for our protection. The illusions generated by the hope that things will improve lead us to waste precious years giving second chances and to feel desperate because the change we expect never comes. It's time for action. It's time to curb the wave of narcissism, toxicity, and competition and reclaim our lives.

Too much blah blah, but very lacking in bibliography, authors, colleges, and psychological terms. I didn't get almost anything from this book that I didn't already know. Also, very poor paper quality and small font for a €25 book. Disappointing...
