This book is an effort to understand Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and the most effective ways to treat it. It is a common and quite enigmatic disorder in terms of its etiology. The sufferer experiences immense anxiety/distress that often takes on torturous dimensions due to their obsessions. To feel better, even temporarily, they resort to rituals and compulsions, avoidance, and seeking reassurance from relatives, friends, and health professionals. This is perceived by the individual as relief and serves as a way of temporarily alleviating anxiety but also perpetuating the problem. Despite the fact that we all exhibit such behaviors, it appears that approximately 2-3% of the population suffers, spending a significant portion of their daily life with substantial impacts on their life.
