  Papakostas is the type of person who will tell you things historically as they are in the book. For him, there is no "we don't talk about these things" because they affect the image, patriotic sentiment, or because they supposedly promote patriarchy, phallocracy, etc. And ultimately, this way you reconcile with the past and place it in its real position, away from excessive idealizations and moralizing that lead to patriotism or demonization.   A very nice book, in an easy style to be read by the whole family or with the whole family. The author tries to free the reader from fanaticism and intrigue that can be caused by a historical and mythical book, something that is evident throughout the narrative but completely clear at the end with the writings that were "lost" due to low popularity instead of being systematically destroyed in the fire, which is in great contrast to the historical aspect.

  I hope the second "victim" of it, the taxi driver, will be another book (at least) so that other things that didn't make it into this book can be written. Philosophical schools, historical and mythical events, etc.

  I recommend it to anyone who was intrigued by history and had gaps in their knowledge, but also generally because for me, this book lays the foundations on which the reader will build their future knowledge.   Okay, Papakostas is excellent. Even if you don't like antiquity, it will make you love it and then some. As someone already familiar with archaeology, as someone said in a comment, it won't add any additional knowledge. But... the storytelling/description style is entertaining and very enjoyable. I highly recommend it.
