Description

On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the 1821 Revolution, the official narrative seeks to revive stereotypes that historical research has deconstructed. The 21 stories in the book aim to contribute to this deconstruction. Guided by the words of D. Solomos, that "the nation must learn to consider national whatever is true" and not what conveniently serves the ruling class.

In these short narratives, protagonists of the Revolution who are scorned by official history, such as Vladimirescu, Vasiliou, Karatzas, Oikonomou, Logothetis, take center stage. Great but also controversial figures of the Struggle, such as Mavrokordatos and Karaiskakis, among others, are presented through real events and their contradictions without hagiographies or demonizations.

Hidden truths of the Revolution that have been silenced or distorted are attempted to be retrieved from oblivion and distortion. The disappearance of the Filiki Eteria, the infamous Loans, and generally the politics of the Great Powers towards the Struggle. The stance of the notables towards the refugees after the massacre in Psara, but also in the besieged Messolonghi, the "historical problem" that goes by the name Kapodistrias. Stories such as those of Patsifiko and Papoulakos that chronologically follow the Revolution but are connected to it by a thousand threads.

200 years later, a ghost continues to wander...
