The switch from TP-LINK is useful for creating or expanding a wired network. If the ethernet ports of the router are not enough for the wired connections of all your devices, a switch will help you. It is unmanaged, meaning it does not offer the ability to configure its settings, which makes it more economical. It is mainly recommended for simple users who simply want to expand their small home network and for small businesses with no special requirements. It has 5 ethernet ports with a maximum speed of 10Gbps. It can be rack-mounted, making it suitable for placement with others, providing multiple ports for an office network.
Specifications are collected from official manufacturer websites. Please verify the specifications before proceeding with your final purchase. If you notice any problem you can report it here.
Good solution, as a few days ago I acquired a 10 Gbps fiber optic connection (to be exact, 10 Gbps down / 1 Gbps up).
In this switch, I connect the Ethernet from the fiber optic modem/router, two desktops with 10 Gbps network cards (NIC), and a Synology NAS with the same communication capabilities. In the fifth Ethernet port, I connect the switch to a 16-port TP-Link switch with ports up to 1 Gbps.
Its installation is ridiculously easy (it is an unmanaged switch) and it worked from the first moment.
It is metallic, heavy, very sturdy, heats up during use (~40 degrees), but because it does not have a fan, it is completely silent.
The two LEDs per port are very useful, each of which provides accurate indication of each connection (10G/2.5G/1G/1000M/100M) depending on the color it shows (green/orange).
To achieve speeds above 1Gbps, at least Cat6a cabling must be used.
Update 12.05.2024 (one month later):
I rushed to initially rate it with 5 stars.
Having many years of experience in wired networks, I note the following:
1. The 10Gbps fiber optic modem/router provided by Cosmote is the ZTE ZXHN F8648P.
2. My rig is: ASUS ROG Strix B-560F motherboard, Intel i7 11700K 3.60Ghz CPU (11th gen), 64GB DDR4-3200 RAM, 2 Samsung M.2 drives (1TB and 4TB), two Samsung SSD drives (2TB each), 1 Western Digital 3TB mechanical drive, TP-Link TX401 network card (10G).
3. The router is connected to the switch via a 14-meter Cat6A cable with 4 "corners".
When I connect the router directly to the PC with an Ethernet cable, I have a throughput of 7.8Gbps down / 1 Gbps up (as Cosmote told me I would have, now in the experimental installation of 10Gbps).
When the TP-Link switch is involved (connecting the PC to it with either Cat6a or Cat7 cable), the throughput is never better than just 3.3Gbps down (the 1 Gbps up remains).
Perhaps I got a defective unit or it is due to the fact that this specific switch is v.1.0, while TP-Link has now released v.3.6. I really don't know...
However, the result from using this TP-Link switch (which costs 320 euros) is completely disappointing and absolutely unacceptable. What a shame...
