Description

A comprehensive and captivating history of philosophy for readers of all ages. In forty concise chapters, Nigel Warburton traces the greatest philosophers and thinkers, developing a chronological account of the most important movements and milestones in Western philosophy.

Warburton not only makes philosophy accessible, but also inspires us to think, disagree, present rational arguments, and ask questions. "A Little History of Philosophy" presents the sweeping momentum of human inquiry for philosophical understanding and invites us all to participate in the discussion.

"An alphabet for human existence: rarely has philosophy seemed so clear, so significant, so worthy, and so accessible. We are invigorated by the fact that philosophy is presented in terms of the history of ideas, rather than timeless concepts. A wonderful introduction for anyone who has felt curiosity about almost anything."
(Sarah Bakewell, author of "How to Live: A Life of Montaigne in One Question and Twenty Attempts at an Answer")

"A lively and noteworthy book, written with simplicity and clarity. It will find exceptional resonance..."
(Peter Cave, author of "Can a Robot be Human?")

A very useful and comprehensive chronicle of the most important philosophers/thinkers from Socrates to our time. In each chapter, the position of a philosopher who has been a milestone in philosophy is described in detail. I believe that, just like "The Little History of Science" from the same series, "The Little History of Philosophy" is a book that is enjoyable to read and can serve as a starting point for introducing the reader to the world of philosophy. Personally, I am satisfied with it and I recommend it.
