Description

"The role of counseling in school nutrition" is an original study on the dietary habits of students during school hours. The purpose of the study is to explore the position of counseling psychology in the educational role of the teacher and to what extent counseling and educational approaches can be harmonized. At the same time, it aims to examine how a teacher can contribute not only to more effective learning in their specialty, but also to health education and specifically to the dietary education of students. Within this framework, the views of students and teachers from schools in the city of Rhodes are explored using a special questionnaire on current dietary issues, such as teaching a specialized nutrition course and the functioning of the school cafeteria. The interview with the police director of the Dodecanese and the official data from inspections of school cafeterias, the on-site recording of products in school cafeterias in Rhodes, and the interviews with cafeteria managers contribute to the triangulation of the research and outline the situation prevailing in the island's school cafeterias. The originality of the research lies in the fact that it is a unique study in school cafeterias in Rhodes and the Dodecanese and is primary research that examines the issue from different perspectives, including those of educators, students, cafeteria managers, and the police director. It is a timely study, as students' dietary habits are of great importance for their development and health, and the framework of school cafeterias has not changed in recent years.
