Everything we do "says" something, articulates a reason, something that otherwise could not be "spoken". Violence and destructiveness, explicit and implicit, exist in our everyday lives. And in our close relationships, perhaps primarily in them... There are other things, though; other possible paths - creativity, love, companionship - and it is our ability to encompass and understand our unconscious conflicts and contradictions, and even our destructive tendencies, that make these other paths possible. Our life begins in the face of a gaze, otherwise it does not begin.
