Description

The Hittites and the empire they established in Asia Minor during the Middle Bronze Age are the subject of this book, which is published in its second expanded edition. The focus is on the relationship between the Hittites and the Aegean, particularly the presence and activities of the Greeks in Anatolia, Pontus, and Syria-Palestine during the second millennium BC. The political and direct military involvement of the Mycenaeans in the conflicts of Asia Minor is highlighted based on Hittite sources and other evidence, while the cultural interaction between the Aegean region and the core of Asia Minor is shown to be only slightly inferior to that with the Anatolian coast. Similarities and analogies are found in religion, writing, architecture, art, and elsewhere, as a result of mutual influences between the Hittites and the Aegeans.

The aim of the book is to provide as objective a picture as possible of these interactions that developed between Greek and Hittite civilizations during the Bronze Age.
