Description
In what economy of senses and perception is rave based? How does it map new paths in the world? What ideologies does it renew, and how do they relate to the sensory changes it predisposes and favors? It has been over 30 years since the rave music movement broke out and penetrated the nightlife of Western metropolises, and with the "moral panic" that accompanied the circulation of the substance Ecstasy, the multi-day and isolated Festivals in deserts and forests became the custodians of the authenticity of a secret celebration that had to be preserved from mass recognition and state repression. Today, the psychedelic utopias of the 1960s are ritually explored through phantasmagoric events and designer drugs. And the routes of hippie caravans and planets in the East have evolved into the maps of a new euphoric cosmopolitanism fueled by its own musical genre: psychedelic Trance. The author draws ethnographic material from festival routes in Morocco, Hungary, and Greece to examine mobility in the geographical and perceptual fields opened up by the assembly of ecstatic music, psychoactive substances, and revelatory narratives. In this book, the exploration of entertainment becomes an immersion in the cultural representations of the unfamiliar on which the boundaries of modernity are constructed and the premises of exploration and the search for other worlds are made.
