Description

In order for modern man to realize the diversity and possibilities of his world, he must regain collective memory; today is a mirror of yesterday, and in order to grasp it in its entirety, one must reject the stereotypes and unambiguous interpretations of the past. This is the key to the thinking and writing of Eduardo Galeano. History is written by the victors, as the well-known saying goes, but Galeano has set as his programmatic goal in his writing career to write the history that the defeated, the invisible, the weak, the "lesser" did not have the chance to write, but also those who dared to stand up to power in all its forms throughout the centuries, to give a voice to those who could not speak. In "Mirrors," Galeano writes an "almost global history," starting from the cosmogonic myths and the appearance of man on earth and reaching the dawn of the 21st century.

In six hundred vignette-narratives that develop chronologically and thematically, he speaks about man's struggle for life, for beauty, for women and men, for war, poverty, social inequalities, and racism, for the expansion and insatiability of the West, for nature and its destruction, for football and the media.

With "Mirrors," Eduardo Galeano offers a work of history and political reflection, seeking to bring to light the other side of the world, to highlight the multiple facets of the human historical experience that are concealed by official, authoritarian narratives of the historical past.

Review this product
  • Smart and original writing style... The majority of it refers to people and events that took place in Latin America, but nevertheless, I found it quite interesting... It correctly points out that today is a reflection of yesterday, because tomorrow will also be a reflection of today... A book with a lot of food for thought...
