The projection technology is the way in which the light from the projector's lamp is converted into an image to be projected onto a surface through the lens. This particular projector uses DLP (DMD) technology and its lamp is LED type, which has a longer lifespan but lower brightness than regular lamps, with good color performance.
This specific technology takes its name from the initials of the words Digital Light Processing, it is the most widespread projection technology and there are projectors with one or three DLP chips. The image is created when the light from the projector lamp passes through a rotating color wheel and is reflected by a chip that has hundreds of thousands of microscopic mirrors, each corresponding to a pixel. This chip is called DMD (Digital Micromirror Device). They are suitable for well-lit spaces, such as classrooms or conference rooms, and have good color performance.
The brightness and contrast, or contrast ratio, are two very important characteristics that are taken into account, along with the projection distance and maximum diagonal you want to achieve, for selecting a projector. This specific one has a brightness of 1500 Lumens and a contrast ratio of 25:1.
The contrast indicates the difference between the darkest and brightest parts of an image and is an indicator of image quality. The image projected by a projector with a low contrast ratio appears washed out and flat. On the contrary, with a high contrast ratio, it appears more realistic and with greater "depth".
The brightness indicates how much light the projector can deliver on a specific surface size. The general rule suggests that the "brightest" projectors should be preferred in spaces with sufficient light or multiple light sources, while the "darker" ones should be preferred in dark spaces.
It is equipped with Wi-Fi and Ethernet, so you can connect wirelessly or wired to your local network and stream a program online or download software updates. The Bluetooth wireless connection allows you to connect devices that have the same technology, such as your mobile phone. You can watch a video from your mobile phone or the movie you saved on your laptop with the company, using the Miracast/Screen Mirroring feature. This feature allows you to wirelessly "mirror" the screen of your mobile or laptop to a larger screen.
Specifications are collected from official manufacturer websites. Please verify the specifications before proceeding with your final purchase. If you notice any problem you can report it here.
I will start with the brightness, it is at 1500 ANSI Lumens which means it has a very bright lamp, so even in a bright room you can see comfortably. The bright colors are displayed nicely but the black (on a white wall) does not have good contrast but it is not tragic. It has Bluetooth connectivity and connects to WIFI 5G, important for me as I have a wireless Sony HOME cinema connected, also I do not need to use a cable for the router which is in another room. It supports screen sharing from the mobile phone, something I have not figured out how it works yet. It has webOS software, which is very user-friendly and does not get tiring to use. You can easily download Netflix, YouTube, and various other apps through the LG app page. As for the remote control, it has a very nice feature that is also found in LG TVs, meaning depending on where you aim and how you move it, a cursor moves on the screen like a mouse on a PC. It also has a shortcut button for Netflix. It only has vertical keystone correction. The device's speakers are just "OK" for those who do not have external speakers, for an outdoor viewing in the summer with 5-10 people there will be no issue. The sound produced by the projector's fan is mild and not bothersome, while the air that comes out is quite warm but not worrying, make sure it is not hit by the sun where it is placed. Finally, the transformer is quite warm. IMPORTANT: When you activate it for the first time, it will ask you which country you are using it in, if you are in Greece it is logical to choose that, but because this product is not supported in Greece it will not let you download or start apps. So, choose the United Kingdom, at least that's what I did, to enjoy it.
Edit: its software is not very fast but personally it does not bother me, in the Netflix and YouTube apps there is a slight difference in synchronization between sound and image, the sound comes first for fractions of a second without being bothersome. I tried to watch a movie from the software's browser and there it was synchronized correctly. Finally, the LG store has several apps but many popular ones are missing, of course this can be solved by connecting a TV box.
