A classic Nikkor from the old school. It is aimed at "enthusiast" photographers - experts or those who want to learn and build a collection of F-Mount lenses. It is specified as a Macro lens but works well for portraits and almost anything, with sharpness and excellent color rendering. It focuses slowly and not silently (but in Macro use, you focus manually anyway). A lens without distortions, ideal for reproducing works of art. Well-made, it only autofocuses on bodies with a focusing motor (not the D3XXX, D5XXX series) and film bodies. If you find it used in good condition, don't hesitate. As a new purchase, it has been replaced by the AF-S 60mm Macro with faster autofocus and a more modern aesthetic, but not necessarily better optical results.
