Description
"The Girl of the Brothel" is a novel of cinematic writing, based on the journey of pre-war rebetiko sound of Piraeus and Drapetsona, as it was formed in the tekkes, in the infamous brothels of Vourla and in the refugee quarters, within a social mixture of refugees, intoxication, prostitution, and poverty.
The novel oscillates between history and invention, following the chronicle of one of the few and unknown singers of the tekke in Chiotika of Drapetsona, a girl who was born in 1905 and lived in the tekke of Michalis, during the harsh years of the tough guy from Piraeus.
The Piraeus bouzouki, the refugee manes, and the underground printing press respectfully meet the anonymous girl who rightfully earned a place in the mythical music underworld of the tekkes of Drapetsona.
