Second time I buy it. After 4 years of daily use with the Apple Pencil, it had become completely smooth so I had to replace it. Also, with use, the tip of the Apple Pencil wears out due to the screen and needs to be replaced every few months. Nevertheless, it makes using the Apple Pencil so enjoyable that all these damages are worth it. If you work with the Apple Pencil and don't have a matte screen protector, you have an incomplete setup!
