The material was designed to symmetrically cover the requirements of the knowledge subject.
Thus, the first chapter refers to seismic excitation and general response characteristics, while the second chapter analyzes in detail - without any calculations - the mechanical behavior and seismic pathology of the complex framework of multi-story buildings.
The third chapter develops various methods of seismic analysis based on the discrete model of constructions and using matrix notation, according to the requirements of automatic computer calculation.
On the contrary, the fourth chapter presents in a unified manner and with sufficient elements of originality the basic principles of simplified calculation of multi-story buildings as simple beams, based on the continuous model and using numerical matrices.
However, the diversity of the seismic framework of buildings requires a more detailed analysis, depending on their structure and the use of both the discrete and continuous model. For this reason, the fifth chapter examines separately the pure systems that exhibit simpler elastic behavior, while the next two chapters are dedicated to the study of mixed systems, the sixth for symmetric and the seventh for asymmetric, due to their more complex behavior in space. A clear understanding of the behavior under consideration is believed to be acquired with the help of the three-pole method that we recently developed and is presented in the seventh chapter.
Finally, the eighth chapter makes a rather brief reference to second-order phenomena without specific completeness requirements.
The drafting of the extensive Appendix A was deemed necessary not only for the more accurate calculation of the kernels based on Vlassov's theory, but mainly because the theory allows for the calculation and understanding of the overall static behavior of the criteria in space.
Appendix B contains the required numerical tables to facilitate calculations in the case of applying the continuous model, while Appendix C presents basic elements of matrix statics and computer programming.
