Description

In the visual society, pessimistic voices predict a gloomy future of human subjugation to algorithms, biological mutation into an unwanted species, and even complete disappearance. On the other hand, optimistic voices proclaim that we will gradually adapt to technological advancement, enjoying its benefits, or that a new era is emerging for the human species, surpassing biological limitations and ultimately colonizing the universe, fulfilling its destiny. Is it possible to remain critical both of the gospel of transhumanists, advocating for a liberated and happy humanity thanks to technological progress, and of the dark prophecy of technophobes, namely the dystopia of technocracy or the complete annihilation of humanity? What would a reflective art of life look like when we instinctively delegate the management of choices and decision-making to algorithms in order to alleviate the burden of inflationary freedom? The essays in this book aim to describe the current form of the visual society and certain characteristics of the visual subject as a new anthropomorphic entity under the prism of digital humanism. The latter, as a provocation for self-awareness, explores what constitutes humanity, defending both relative autonomy against algorithms and against the digital image of oneself.

While what he has to say is very interesting, the language used by the author is quite tiring.
