Description

"The Indifferent Ones" is the first novel by Alberto Moravia, which he wrote at a very young age and is considered the most important of his literary career. This work was published during one of the most difficult historical moments in Italy. Mussolini had already imposed his dictatorship, and the country was heading towards the consensus and popular endorsement of fascism. Having little interest in politics at the time, Moravia nevertheless showed in the most vivid and direct way that fascism turns the mortal danger of indifference into an entirely existential personal regime. The portrait he painted, that of a twenty-year-old young man facing the collapse of his bourgeois family as well as his own country, remains unsurpassed to this day.

In the book, the reader will find an excellent introduction by the esteemed E. Sanguinetti, an important critical note by A. Grandelis, as well as four significant and rare texts by Moravia himself that further explain and analyze the meanings of his work and the era in which he wrote it.
