Perhaps my favorite party word game (clearly superior to the boring codenames). Simple, fast, and fun! A modern day classic that fans of taboo will definitely love.
The production quality is not very good. The markers in my copy didn't write well... and they left permanent marks on the tiles. I replaced them with others from the market.
Just one is an excellent cooperative board game for 3-7 players that anyone can play. One player will be the guesser and the others have to help them find the words. Shuffle the cards and choose 13 randomly. Each time, the guessing player will turn over one of these cards without looking at it and randomly choose one of the five options. The others, by writing only one word on their small boards, have to help them find the correct word. The problem is that before the players reveal their answers to the guessing player, they have to check that there are no common answers. If there are, those elements are erased and the player will have fewer clues to find the word. In the example, the word that the player has to find is "Sea". The clues are "Fish, Caspian, Mediterranean, Salty, Ships, and Fish". Because "Fish" is a common word, it will be erased and the player will have to guess with the remaining clues. The game continues for 13 rounds and at the end, the players count the number of times they successfully helped their teammate guess correctly and they all receive a score. It may seem simple and uninteresting until you start playing. As the players cannot communicate with each other about the clues they will give, there is always tension and anxiety. Should I write the obvious or will someone else write it and we will lose an important clue? For example, let's say the word is "Paris" and everyone is afraid that someone will write "Eiffel" or "France", so you end up with clues like "Croissant, Camembert, Roquefort, Frog Legs," etc., which indeed make the player think of France, but at the same time, they also think that it is more likely to be a French food. The times when you look at each other "annoyed" because you put the same clue or those times when no one put the obvious clue are epic. Sometimes everything goes well and almost all the clues match each other except for one that just makes the guessing player wonder and the other teammates go crazy with the player who chose it. The only problem I have with the construction quality is that out of the 7 markers that come in the box, half of them dried out after the first game.
The game plays wonderfully with 3 players and 5 and above. In the variation with 3 players, one of them guesses, allowing the other two to take two small boards and give their clues. In the case of 4 players, only 3 clues are not enough for many cases. By increasing the number of players, you have more clues but also the risk of erasing answers.
Quite a fun game, with simple rules that you can understand very quickly. The game also suggests an interesting variation for 3 players to add more interest. In all the groups I have recommended it to, they have been thrilled!
Additionally, the package includes whiteboard markers along with "labels" for each player to write
