In this book, the political situation of Greece is thoroughly analyzed shortly before the outbreak of World War II and the distinctive personality of dictator Ioannis Metaxas is examined. It explains how the reigning Greek dictatorship, which had similarities to the Italian reigning dictatorship, chose to align itself with British democracy in this great war, while describing the conditions under which the Greeks, united, repelled the fascist attack during a period of Axis dominance in the European theaters of war.
