Description

In Structural Analysis, modern methods of static and dynamic analysis of structures are described, with an emphasis on computer usage. The author's goal is for the book to be a useful aid for students of Civil Engineering and Architecture departments, as well as for professional engineers who would like to be informed about modern methods of structural analysis.

  • In the first part of the book, the author introduces the reader to the basic principles and methods of static analysis of structures.
  • In the second part, matrix methods of flexibility and stiffness are presented for the static analysis of networks and frame structures.
  • In the third part, the dynamic analysis of single-degree-of-freedom and multi-degree-of-freedom systems is presented, and readers are introduced to the technology of seismic isolation of structures and finite element methods.
  • In the fourth part, programming elements of static and dynamic analysis methods are presented, and the use of structural analysis software is discussed through an illustrative example in the SAP2000 analysis program.

In this 3rd edition, significant improvements and useful extensions have been made, which have emerged after a decade of using the book at the University of Cyprus and universities in Greece. Both the examples and the provided exercises for solving at the end of basic chapters, especially those related to dynamic analysis, have been selectively enriched, while new, clearer figures have been used.
