This edition brings together for the first time in one volume two important texts by Levi-Strauss, which at a first level mark the engagement of the great thinker in the battle against racist prejudices, as they were initially published under the auspices of UNESCO.
The first is the well-known and often published "Race and History" from 1952. The second is the unknown for a long period of time "Race and Culture" from 1971. This text seems to attract attention after its publication in the context of the collection Le regard eloigne in 1983. Even then, however, it comes under scrutiny as somehow "problematic", as it seems to express a rupture of the author in relation to basic concepts of his thought, as they were reflected in "Race and History".
