The present edition of the map "Parnassos 1:25,000" is based on field research results completed in August 2002. The map covers almost the entire eastern Parnassos and part of the western Parnassos, and includes the following:
- Paths: All the paths shown on the map were recorded with GPS. Furthermore, the research in Parnassos was conducted during the period when "Anavasi" recorded Mountaineering Path 22, a project assigned to them by the Mountaineering Federation. Information about certain paths was obtained from the book by N. Haratsis, "Guide to Parnassos for hikers". Only a few difficult trails that the researchers had previously walked have been transferred from memory.
- The complete and systematic recording of the road network was completed with GPS.
- The contour interval is 20m. A detailed digital terrain model was constructed, which is represented as a shaded relief. Vegetation (data from various sources) and slopes have been added to the relief.
- Almost all the sources of Parnassos were checked.
- The toponyms were completed from various sources.
The map is part of the "Topo 25" series and is spatially complemented by the map "Parnassos 1:50,000" from the "Topo 50" series.
The "Topo" series represents the latest step in the long-term evolution of the cartographic work of "Anavasi".
The "Topo" series includes maps in scales of 1:100,000, 1:50,000, 1:25,000, and 1:10,000. The maps are constructed in the Greek Geodetic Reference System (EGSA 87), the national geodetic system that was implemented to meet the needs of large land surveying and mapping projects in the country.
Considering that the map is a tool on which the user's safety sometimes depends, "Anavasi" strives to provide the best and most accurate cartographic material. Therefore, all the work (construction of the base maps, collection and recording of field data, final map composition) is carried out according to defined and strict quality and accuracy specifications, ensuring the highest possible accuracy for these specific scales.
In the "Topo" series of "Anavasi", two coordinate systems are displayed:
- The square grid at 1km intervals in the Greek Geodetic Reference System. It is a complete rectangular grid (orange lines). The projected coordinates of EGSA are expressed in meters.
- The crosses of geographic coordinates at 1 minute intervals in WGS84. These are the intersection points of meridians and parallels of the global geodetic reference system that have been displayed on the map.
If you use the map in combination with a GPS, you can locate your position based on the coordinates provided by the GPS without changing any settings.
