Description

Money. Betrayal. Corruption. Justice.

Bradley Birkenfeld had it all, as a personal banking advisor for the world's largest bank, UBS, where the wealthiest of the wealthy hid their millions from the eyes of tax authorities in a secret, complex network of anonymous accounts and offshore companies. When he discovered that UBS intended to scapegoat him for the indiscretions of its clients, Birkenfeld revealed the plan to American authorities.

Over $15 billion (so far) has been recovered based on the unprecedented information provided by Birkenfeld, but despite Birkenfeld taking on the responsibility of exposing the largest tax fraud scheme in history and shattering the tradition of secrecy in the Swiss banking system with his revelations, the Department of Justice tried to turn him into a scapegoat and silence him. He was charged with conspiracy to commit criminal acts, arrested, and served a thirty-month prison sentence.

But Birkenfeld emerged victorious. After his release, he was vindicated when the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) awarded him a $104 million reward for his explosive revelations, the largest such reward ever given.

Now, with the book "The Devil's Banker," Birkenfeld tells his incredible story for the first time.

Book that is "recommended" for those who are doing a postgraduate degree in criminology, especially in "white-collar crimes".
It shows how organized the black banking money/system is.
It shows that while governments want to fight it, in practice they support it.
It shows the relationship that power has with the private capital of banks, and how the "ordinary citizen" deposits their money and makes them stronger.
It shows that if you try to "uncover" the truth, they will chase after you and your family.
    -----
Guess where the investigation started from (hahaha, "investigation", hahaha) for the Lagarde list....
    -----
It's worth reading if you're not involved in the field of legislation (legislative power, judicial power, executive power...etc...etc...). Because if you're involved in this field, then you already know everything that the book writes firsthand.

An unbeatable book that will adorn my library for a very long time!!! Amazing writing, which in such a demanding subject, not only does not tire the reader, but on the contrary, keeps the interest constant from the first to the last page! The author is worthy. Bravo to him!!!

  • It has good and interesting points but a bit... cliché regarding the main framework of the author's thoughts. Nevertheless, I consider it to have dignity as a text, definitely.
