This book discusses new theories, models, concepts, and questions that underlie intercultural communication in everyday intercultural encounters. Intercultural communication as a concept is useful for understanding and effectively managing cultural diversity in the era of globalization. Transactions and communication with people of different cultures are (re)interpreted in space and time and intensified through communication technologies, transportation systems, the global economy, and international migration/mobility. In this complex framework of communication and globalized society, our culture determines our behavior. New challenges arise and require intercultural communication skills to function effectively in a connected context, as the way we act may not be the only or the most correct one.
