  Briefly, I would not recommend it even to my worst enemy! I read about design aesthetics that easily scratches, etc. We are talking about a switch, the case is irrelevant in terms of appearance BUT unfortunately it plays a big role!!! So anything other than a 1000Mbps switch in a plastic case, regardless of the manufacturer, stay away! Unless we know that its board is very well shielded, something that usually happens with expensive designs in a metal case. It is more cost-effective for the manufacturer to use a metal case with a few extra euros than to redesign it. Only something from microtik - ubiquity I would accept in plastic just because they are top-level and such a thing would be a disaster for the company and the customers it targets. I have installed dozens of SG1008 from version 3 and above, always the same poor quality and always unable to identify the problems that I attributed to something else until I realized that this specific one, as well as many other manufacturers such as dlink in such entry-level switches, have this unpredictable behavior always in 1000Mbps switches. Once similar behavior existed in cheap 100Mbps switches and was corrected when the 1000Mbps ones appeared, perhaps due to evolution - design all in one integrated. So only the metal TL-SG108 worked and still works perfectly for years but marginally always "let's not get carried away" enough for office work up to their 24-port version in unmanaged or even easy smart type TL-SG108E in case of vlan. So, an unwritten rule, never "home" version switch, i.e. with a plastic case that loses packets and enters an endless loop with the slightest flow hiccup especially if one considers that to save 6 - 8€ and will have a completely unpredictable behavior that may cost him much more.

  The naming of TP-Link models is a big mess. Same model name but many versions (v5, v6, v7, v8, etc.) that can ultimately be different products, with unrelated photos. I received this specific TL-SG1008D v8 when I had ordered the TL-SG1008D v6. In the v8, the LEDs on the front have disappeared compared to previous versions (always with the same model name), so when you have it on your desk, you don't know how many and which devices are connected. The material on the top is glossy plastic that gets fingerprints just by touching it once, and it scratches very easily. Because the device is very lightweight, it tends to lift up due to the weight of the cables connected to the back. If you can, buy a switch with a metal casing that is heavier and more sturdy. If none of the above bothers you and you won't be seeing it, go ahead and buy it.
