The camera is simply a small giant. I own many cameras such as Canon EOS R, EOS RP, Canon EOS M6 Mark II, Canon EOS M50, Nikon Z6, and I had the Sony A7II R but I parted with it due to color and overheating issues in videos. The Lumix G9 has no issues and the video and color quality are even better than what I see from my full-frame cameras. I highly recommend it for both professional and non-professional use, and don't be afraid of the small sensor size.
Purchase purely for professional use of shooting wedding videos, baptisms, etc.
I will compare it to the Sony A7 Mark ii due to the same price range and because I used it as my main camera.
I am not a fanboy of any brand, the name doesn't concern me.
The camera is truly underrated.
Everyone for some reason gets stuck on full frame exclusively, but sensor size is not everything.
I have the A7 Mark 2 (bought used) and since I worked with the Mark 3 for a bit, it didn't impress me, I expected much more, something better. Yes, the autofocus is incredible, but okay. I planned on getting the new Lumix full frame for many reasons, not because of sensor size, but for video resolution, future proofing, etc. But due to a sudden health incident, my budget shrank.
So I dismissed the Mark 3 because it didn't surprise me and I did a lot of research and ended up with the G9.
Differences in detail resolution in videos, etc. are minimal, only visible to an experienced eye compared to the Mark 2.
The stabilizer is simply divine. You have to work with it to see how good it is. If you're a bit steady in your movements, it's like having a gimbal.
Very good battery life due to sensor size.
The menu is easy, properly distributed.
Dual card slots, which is a must for my work, touchscreen with shortcuts to change whatever you want without entering the menu, a plethora of custom buttons, incredibly convenient.
After the latest update, the autofocus has become very good. Not as good as an A7 Mark 3, but commendable and you can rely on it. We can't expect everything to be perfect.
The G9 has worked in very high temperatures, 40 degrees outside for hours, and didn't notice anything, while my Mark 2 has shut down due to overheating, not once but several times, but fortunately, the files were not lost.
In terms of noise, it's logical for it to produce more noise than a full frame. But in videos, I never had such an issue since I have never worked above 3200 ISO inside a church.
Much more comfortable to hold.
The colors of Panasonic are simply incredible. With other brands, you simply suffer.
I won't deal with photography because it's not my subject.
With 100€, you can unlock vlog-L. It doesn't give you the same freedom as vlog, but the job can be done easily.
What can one say first about the G9. Incredible quality in 80MP mode (pixelshift), unbeatable video image in 6K mode and 4K 50p, exceptional low light in video (3200 ISO easily), dual recording, ExTele modes with crystal clear crop zoom, ergonomics with countless custom buttons, triple stabilizer (lens, IBIS, and OIS LOCK - you have to see it to believe it), exceptional slow motion, gigantic EVF (0.85 !!!), batteries that never seem to run out, excellent sound with full control and inputs-outputs for wireless and headphones, blah blah blah...
One of the best purchases I have made for video, recently I bought a second one, I have combined them with 12-60mm f2.8-4 (Leica), 7.5mm f2 (Laowa), 25mm f1.7 (Leica), 42.5mm f1.7 (Leica), and 85mm f1.8 (Samyang).
Simply: UNBELIEVABLE
