Description

This collective scientific work examines the history of Greek television over the past fifty years, from the first television broadcast (1967) to the present, a period of technological change and convergence of media.

Through systematic research on the way American television fiction series were organized and received in our country, the ideological and psychosocial dynamics that influenced and shaped the identity of the Greek television viewer are sought.

Despite intense and long-standing anti-American sentiment, viewers familiarized themselves with the codes and standards of globalized American television fiction through the composition of planetary and local elements.

The book examines the pivotal importance of television and American culture for the decisive transformation of the relationship between modernity and tradition in Greek society.

Series such as "Peyton Place", "Star Trek", "Battle", "Little House on the Prairie", "Lucy", "Dynasty", "Dallas", "Dukes", "Fever of Glory", "Heartbeat in Beverly Hills", "Friends", "He, She and the Mysteries", "Boldness and Charm", "Sex and the City", "The Unknown", "Game of Thrones", "House of Cards" and many others are analyzed through two complementary approaches that have been rarely applied in domestic research: The first consists of the precise historical recording of television flow and content data. The other concerns the systematic research of the audience, that is, the reception of American television products by viewers.
