Description

The G.Skill Flare X DDR4 RAM is aimed at demanding computer users, such as gamers, professionals in video and image editing, designers, and those who require high performance from their computer.

This specific series of memory from G.Skill is specially designed to operate in AMD systems and offers optimal performance and stability. However, they can also be used in Intel systems.

DDR4

DDR4 is the fourth generation of RAM technology for computers. It replaces DDR3 and offers increased speeds and greater capacity than its predecessor.

Specifically, DDR4 offers operating speeds from 2133MT/s to 4800MT/s, latency (CAS Latency) from CL 9 to CL 22, while its capacity has increased up to 16GB per memory module.

For speed (MT/s) and capacity (GB), the more size we choose and is supported by the motherboard, the better, while for latency (CL), we want the smallest size in relation to speed (MT/s).

The G.Skill Flare X provides a speed of 3600MT/s, with CL14 and 8 GB per memory module.

Compatibility

DDR4 technology is compatible with specific motherboards and processors. Indicatively, DDR4 is compatible with Intel Skylake, Kaby Lake, Coffee Lake series processors and the latest Intel processors, as well as AMD Ryzen and Threadripper series processors.

However, for compatibility with your motherboard, you need to ensure that your motherboard supports DDR4 technology from the manufacturer. Compatibility depends on the processor platform and the type of motherboard you are using.

XMP & EXPO

XMP & EXPO is a technology that allows us to increase the frequency and performance of our computer's memory without the need for manual adjustments. (XMP/EXPO) is easily activated from the BIOS, is available in certain RAM memories, and is supported by certain motherboards.

The Trident Z RGB 16GB DDR4 RAM has (XMP 2.0/EXPO) profiles with performances:

  • Speed (XMP/EXPO): 3600 MT/s
  • CAS Latency (XMP/EXPO): 18-22-22-42
  • Voltage (XMP/EXPO): 1.35V

Cooling & Design

The aluminum heatsink material, with its design including fins for heat dissipation, keeps the memory at a fairly low temperature even during the most demanding operations.

This review is about the capacity: 32 GB

They were installed in a system with an existing set of 2x8 flare x and all played together 48GB at 3600mhz with 14 timings and 1T. Expensive but you get what you pay for.

Well, I have these memories Ryzen 5 5600G.
I don't have a Psu, I will come back when I complete the Psu.

This review is about modules: 4, capacity: 32 GB

I had bought 2x8 gigabyte memories when I built the PC asus crosshair VI x370 with the ryzen 1600x. I simply enabled xmp from the bios and the memories immediately ran at 3200. I had bought them for 235 euros.
I upgraded to ryzen 5800x cpu and bought another 16 gigabytes, 2x8, for 95 euros. I simply went to the bios and set them to run at 3600 without enabling xmp and with the timings on auto. I have also attached a picture. The timings are high but since they run without any issues, I'm okay with it.
In my opinion, these memories are a must for anyone with an AMD system, especially since they are certified for AMD CPUs. They are a great value for money at 100 euros for 16 gigabytes or around 200 for 32 gigabytes. I have no regrets and from what I've seen, they can go even higher

    Excellent memory choice for Ryzen.
I had bought a 2X8 set for a new build with Ryzen 2400G / Asus Prime B350 Plus, which was easily installed and worked flawlessly from the beginning at 3200MHz/CL14.
I was so satisfied with this memory that I bought another 2X8 set when the prices dropped (the first one was purchased for around 200€, the second one for 95€) and now I am a happy owner of 32GB RAM/3200MHz/CL14.
I haven't done any overclocking, I'm not interested, I am completely satisfied with the performance it gives me as it is.
If you have the money, buy it blindly - otherwise, buy the same one but with CL16 (minimal differences in speed)

  • I bought them almost 3-4 years ago for around 200 euros. They are very good, although I didn't notice that my motherboard doesn't support 3333mhz with these specific RAM sticks. Nevertheless, at the price they are today, it's a very good purchase. Almost 4 years and no problems, whether we're talking about gaming, editing, or streaming.

I had high expectations and they were fully met.
On the "ancient" Aorus x370 K5, with 2400G, I reached 3133 with incredible timings (12-13-13-13-25-38) tWR 11, tFAW 16, ProcODT 60ohms. Voltage 1.57, 0 errors in memtest after 12 loops. At 1.55V, they threw 1 error from the first loop. They are Samsung b-die, they love overvolting and remain cool, don't be afraid of them.

Update 3/10/20: With 3400G, they are still stuck at 3133. But on a budget version of the B450 platform with the 2400G, I managed to reach 3400 with only 1.50 voltage (which was the maximum allowed by the BIOS).

Update 14/12/20: Back on X370, stable at 3266Mhz with even tighter subtimings and help from buildzoid.

Update 4/02/21: Now at 3400Mhz with the Ryzen 5 3600 and voltage 1.56V.
Update 17/04/21: The X370 gave up. Temporary solution is a ROG Strix 450F II. 3733Mhz with CL14.

    Update 01/08/22: On a Gigabyte X570 with R5 5600X, they run at 3733Mhz CL13-14-14-27-42 @1.56V

I use the memories with an X470 Prime Pro motherboard and an R5 2600x from 2018 without any problems, activating DOCP (3200, cl14) from the first day. The only thing I have to add is that when I bought them, due to mining, the price of the memories had reached 200 euros, but even then, it was worth buying them for a Ryzen system without any problems. Now, at 120 euros, I believe there is no need for a second thought for one of the best Ryzen memories on the market.

Excellent!! I used them on the Asrock B450 fatal1ty k4 motherboard and with one click they go to 3200 with Xmp. In the photos they appear gray but they are black. High-quality Samsung B die chip with cl 14. If you don't mind that they don't have RGB, go ahead and get them without fear.

  • Good memory works fine at 3200 with XMP, I just haven't been able to overclock it further.

Edit 26/12/22 I also got a second set. With 5900x, the first overclock with 32GB (4 sticks) managed to make the PC work at 3400. In a few days, I will spend more time to see how far they can go.

Flawless memories. High-quality chip (Samsung B die). If they were a little cheaper, they would be perfect. I have paired them with Ryzen 5 3600 and Asus x470 Gaming-F. With the latest BIOS (5216) that includes AGESA 1.0.0.3abb, they easily ran at 3600 16-16-16-32-48 (safe preset of Ryzen DRAM calculator). I will run tests for higher speeds and update. 5/5 from me.

Update 12/22/19: With the latest BIOS 5406 (AGESA 1.0.04b), the memory ran at 3733 15-15-16-28-42 with 1.425 voltage.
Update 11/28/21: Easily running at 3800 16-17-16-32-48 with the 5600x and the latest BIOS (5861).
Update 8/8/22: With the 5700x and BIOS 5861 (1.20.3c), we are comfortably at the 3800 fast preset of Ryzen DRAM calculator with the only change being Tcdrd from 16 to 17 (16-17-16-32-48)

They are very fast memories but they require BIOS configuration to run at 3200mhz.
The best option for combination with Ryzen, especially with powerful Ryzen processors like the 2700x, with which I paired them.

Very good memories especially if you combine them with a Ryzen processor and a good motherboard like x470. I have them overclocked at 3466 with tight timings from the Ryzen dram calculator. Generally, due to architecture, Ryzen benefits more from good memory compared to equivalent Intel processors. So I would say don't hesitate to spend the money since you are investing in a reliable system.

Very good RAM (14 CL at 3200) have no issues, everything is ok.. They are not exclusively for AMD, they just perform better compared to others.. Now, if someone doesn't want to spend a lot of money, there are also RAM with 16 CL or Ripjaws for 130 euros, which I think are very good... The 90 euros don't justify the price difference that much.. If it wasn't for the difference, yes, FLARE X..
(Also, a little negative is their size, as they don't fit exactly with the Noctua NH-D15 cooler and my fan is slightly above, but it's ok)

With the Asrock ab350m Pro4 motherboard and Ryzen 7 1800x, it was clocked at 3000Mhz and as soon as I enabled XMP, it went straight to 3200Mhz without any issues. Incredible memory, worth the extra money. One tip: don't be afraid to apply some force to make sure they are properly seated, my screen didn't post because I hadn't installed them properly

I bought 2 of these packages for Threadripper x1920. Out of the box, they ran at 3200mhz with just a BIOS setting. If you go with AMD and want memory at 3200mhz that will definitely run at this frequency without much hassle, these are the way to go as they have Samsung B-die chips.

It works perfectly on a Ryzen system. I have been overclocking it to 3466 continuously for 4 months on an Asus ROG Crosshair Hero VI and an overclocked 1700x at 4.0. I work on 3D animation and I haven't encountered any problems whatsoever.

Just to inform you that these specific memories are excellent for Intel Coffee Lake systems because:
    1. They say "For AMD," which is nothing more than a marketing label.
    2. There are no reviews mentioning Intel systems.
    3. Some motherboards do not have them on the list of compatible memories.

And I say all this because of the shock I experienced when I realized that Asus did not have them on their Z370-H list that I have. In the end, they work PERFECTLY at 3200MHz.
