The increasing congestion of road networks combined with the advantages of environmentally friendly modes of transportation, such as railways, inland waterways, and maritime transport, advocate for the use of combined transport techniques.

The purpose of the book is to present the European Union's policy on Combined Transport, as well as an analysis of the transportation sector as expressed through road, rail, air, river, and maritime transport. The specificities, advantages, and weaknesses of each mode of transport are analyzed, and the basic concepts and definitions related to Combined Transport are provided, as prevailing in international literature and particularly in the European Union.
