Description

A man mysteriously disappears from Fjällbacka. Despite the persistent efforts of Patrick and his colleagues, no one knows if he is alive or dead. Four months later, they discover his body, frozen in the ice. The case becomes more complicated when debut author Christian Thindel, whom Erica has helped with his book, begins receiving anonymous threatening letters. Christian is on the brink of great success with his novel The Mermaid when he receives another message during his book launch party. The young author collapses in front of Erica, and while he tries to downplay the significance of the event, Erica takes action; she takes the letter and shows it to Patrick. Erica has long realized that something is troubling Christian and is worried about him, while Patrick realizes that Christian is in great danger - someone harbors deep and unrelenting hatred for him and will not hesitate to make their threats a reality.

The book was published in Sweden in May 2008 and was the ultimate bestseller of the summer. It has sold more than 500,000 copies.

I have read the entire series with Patrick and Erica, I liked them very much, this may have been the least good of the rest, but I love Lackberg very much!

Usually, I understand the plot relatively early, but this was mind-blowing to me. For those who like stories that will leave them speechless, this is the perfect book. It does have moments that require a little patience, but it is worth it.

It is the fifth book of hers that I am reading and so far the best. 530 pages that I read in one day. And I'm not even a "bookworm". Just incredible. It comes after the mediocre for me "The Child from Germany" which was written with the thought that it would become a movie, which left me indifferent. The paradox with Camilla is that each subsequent book of hers is somehow a continuation of the previous one, not in terms of the plot, but in terms of the lives of the main characters. This does not mean in any way that you have to have read the previous ones to understand the current one. The mermaid is a book that you will not put down until you finish it. The writing is fast-paced without any fluff. No pages written just to give the book volume. There are no unnecessary descriptions or lulls. The plot unfolds quickly and drags you to read the next page. You will enjoy it with an unexpected ending. This is what a reader of detective novels asks for. To become one with the book. To try to guess the culprit and be proven wrong. I liked it. Perhaps the most beautiful and concise book of hers (excluding the short and clever Agatha Christie-like, snowstorm with the scent of bitter almond). Buy it and it will truly captivate you with its style, the fast-paced development of its plot, and its truly substantial writing.
