Description

The classic work of Herman Melville, Moby Dick, one of the masterpieces of American literature, was initially published in England in 1851 under the title "The Whale" and subsequently in the USA with its well-known title. It is -apparently- an adventure on the seas of the world, where a maniacal captain of a whaling ship, Ahab, has made it his life's mission to kill a gigantic whale, Moby Dick, from which he had lost his leg in a previous encounter. However, this epic work essentially represents a battle between man and the forces of nature, containing a multitude of (often quite lengthy) details about the whales that were ruthlessly hunted by humans in previous centuries and, at the same time, making numerous philosophical references to significant historical events worldwide with astonishing symbolism. Undoubtedly, it is one of the greatest works of world literature.
