Description

Gender as a sociological and political component constitutes a particular object of study in the broader field of social sciences, thus allowing for the exploration and redefinition of the functioning of public space, the reformulation of the political field, and the reexamination of mediation through the narrative of the media sphere. The conception of gender as a social and cultural construct enhances the approach to the exploration of the political and social object through the lens of relationships, giving particular importance to symbolic and cognitive processes, the construction of meanings and representations, public action, and communicative practices. However, issues related to the private sphere, namely the realm of the personal, also emerge. The perspective of the man-woman relationship holds a dominant position in the approach to the role of gender, redefining the practice and perception of public space, setting new terms for the understanding of the political, contributing to the differentiation of power relations through action, and redefining the design and implementation of public policies by incorporating the gender variable. Thus, gender projects itself as a parameter that seeks to give a new dimension to the political, whether it concerns direct practice in the political arena, institutions, or even the private sphere itself - in its interaction with the public sphere - or whether it concerns issues related to the interpretive framework, issues of representation, as they arise from the functioning of the mediated sphere at the level of mass communication. Within the framework of a polycentric public space through the existence of polymorphic institutions and actors, as well as multiple autonomous and interrelated spaces, issues of political culture and behavior also emerge. In the direction of revising politics, the communicative dimension that takes into account the relationships between different public spheres is of particular interest, as it insists on the existence of different cultural or ethical values that characterize each separate sphere, as well as the dynamics of communication processes that are excluded from the prevailing public sphere. Mass media and, more broadly, the products of communication and information technologies in relation to gender carry particular weight, both in the formation of public space and in the distinction or non-distinction of the public-private relationship.
