A brief overview of the teaching and research of landscape architecture in the Department of Architects of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki is attempted in relation to the time, requirements, needs, capabilities, and peculiarities of the educational framework in which Landscape Architecture has matured in Greek university data.

Landscape Architecture and Urban Outdoor Space Design courses have been taught at the Department of Architects of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki since 1974.
- They are courses of Theory and Criticism in Landscape Architecture and Landscape Design Studios.
- They focus on the study and design of the landscape.
- They are adapted to the studies of the Architect.

They are structured in such a way as to contribute to creative intervention and design in space, or to space design.

The studio courses refer to mainly urban spaces and deal with
- the design of outdoor space networks in contemporary Greek cities, primarily Thessaloniki, and
- punctual design interventions, such as the formation of squares, sidewalks, uncovers, parks, usually dealing with the design of a grid in the urban fabric.

The topics also refer to the reclamation of degraded areas
- natural remnants or traces such as streams
- intermediate spaces such as the exploitation of natural wealth, mines, former military camps,
- new cultural landscapes from reclaimed areas such as on the outskirts of the city's suburbs
- protection and promotion landscapes, natural or cultural, such as deltaic landscapes like Axios.

These topics are completed in the entire spectrum and scales of design
- from the analysis of the landscape and the location,
- the idea or new image of the space,
- the composition and construction of the work.
We give the same emphasis to design and drawing, graphic representation and drawings, models, perspectives, construction, details, sketches, and doodles.
It is a complete project conception, composition, and construction of outdoor space-landscape. [...]
