This monograph represents aspects of Athens during the period 1880-1896 in the literary and journalistic work of Michail Mitsakis. It is a proposal for the study of urban folklore, with "reference points" literary texts, the "representations" of the city. The writer, journalist, flaneur, "chronicler of the city", Michail Mitsakis, creates urban ethnography, urban anthropology-folklore, with a peculiar "on-site observation". In the represented Athens, numerous "modern" forms appear, in fields such as identities, collectivity, entertainment, music, sociality, values, forms of control, social relationships, forms of social exclusion, diversity, cultural customs, etc. The perceptive observer of things, Michail Mitsakis, reveals in the interpretation of the "intermediary" state of the city. His narrative and journalistic writings essentially represent his selective reactions against imposed (pseudo)modernisms, which expel the values, customs, and other "fundamental principles" of a Greek, "patriarchal" way of life.
