Incredible camera, in a good size, with an awesome stabilizer. 4k at 25fps is not suitable for many movements, I shoot in 1080/50fps. The battery is very large, if you have a second one, you can shoot non-stop. I highly recommend it.
After the Sony fdr ax700 (latest model), this is the best...!!!

The sound when we attend a concert is like having a cable connected from the console, when there is wind or a lot of noise, it records a crystal clear sound isolating the ambient noise.
The zoom is excellent, it brings the moon to the screen like a telescope and with the 5-axis stabilization, it doesn't move at all at full zoom or when walking. This camera doesn't even need a gimbal, as it has it all by itself.
As for the video, it is excellent, recording at 1080 -100fps-100mbps and of course, with these settings, it doesn't lag in motion anywhere...!!!
It records in 4k at 24fps, but the only downside is that it is not good for motion, it only works well for static shots.
Perfect camera in all aspects! Solid, well-built with an easy menu in Greek. As for the image, there's no discussion at all!!! Comes with an extra battery and a 128GB sdxc memory card, it's complete.
All video cameras that have 25 fps in 4k present a phenomenon of interrupted motion, and not just this specific one. So let's say that at 25fps in 4k, it presents a phenomenon of interrupted motion, while in 1080 with the same frames in older cameras, we did not notice such a problem, due to the dense image information that 4k has. Therefore, the comparison is unfair and completely wrong.
As for my personal opinion about the camera now after 1.5 years of use, I am 8/10 satisfied. I will first mention the negatives. The build quality is very good, except for some fading in the black lacquer of the microphone, without me mistreating it during storage or moments of work! Also, at the point where we screw the tripod base, if tightened well, you will notice cracks and eventually swelling of the camera's base after a while. Another user mentioned this in the 33, the smallest model I think. So the material at this point that Sony has chosen is terrible. Probably thin plastic. If they had used ridges like all manufacturers did in the past, there would be no such issue. So after this, I now have problems when it is on the tripod. Not intense, but I have some movements. There is a slight "jitter" left and right!
Another negative is that in the settings, it does not allow you to have simultaneous control of shutter speed and brightness of the shot, for example, because there are no separate control "buttons" but only through the electronic menu and the screen. They could have the option to "lock" the selected shutter speed and then be able to go to other settings that we want to make.
One capability (supposedly) is to use it via Wi-Fi with a tablet or mobile phone. Very limited. When you activate it, you cannot have an image on the camera's monitor or control the controls with a switch. It "locks" on Wi-Fi. In which the controls do work, but very slowly and generally mediocre. I think it is only for selfies and for very specific shooting themes where we do not need speed and flexibility.
Finally, the terrible perception of companies to put a glossy surface on the viewfinder screen. When it is day or even dusk, everything behind our shot is reflected on the screen and it can make our work difficult!
I will mention the positives briefly.
Excellent brightness.
Very good stabilizer, but be careful, it can only be used outside the tripod.
Perfect sound.
The image is at high levels, mainly in 1080p mp4 (XAVC S HD). I do not recommend the old AVCHD, unless we run out of storage space on the recording card.
Very good zoom.
Fast autofocus and the camera rarely gets confused, even in low light.
The monitor is very good in terms of indications, response, and density of what we see, but it is small when we want to do sports videography, and for this case, we will need to purchase a larger monitor. I also mentioned the negative of the glossy surface above.
The battery life provided is very good, about 3 hours with heavy zoom usage.
Overall, it is a good (and economical) purchase, and the main things I will expect in an upcoming mid-range model are doubling the frames in 4k and improvement in the ability to manually adjust settings, giving the user more than one parameter for customizing our videography.

NOTE 11-1-2023
The Hdmi output is at 1080p and not at 4K. Therefore, if someone buys a 4K monitor to get more resolution, they won't get it. It will be an unfair purchase. The downside with the monitor is that if we set it to record in 4K and want to view it from an external monitor (1080 resolution), we won't have an image during recording. We will have a black screen on the monitor. The sd card will of course record normally, there is no problem with the recording.

The touch on the screen is gone. Just like in almost every Sony camera I have bought in recent years, the touch stops working. I no longer adjust anything. So, it's a complete disaster with this Sony camera. I had the same problem with some older hdv cameras with cassette (2 cameras), the cx900 recently, and the first ax 53 I had. If you go for a replacement as I remember from before, you need 200 euros plus another 50 for labor!!!!
Unfortunately, I also messed up because I didn't pay attention to the negative comments and videos. The camera is unacceptable... indeed, the image has a serious motion problem... with a simple search on YouTube for "ax53 motion problems" you will see it for yourselves. The response from Sony's service is that there is no problem... 800 euros wasted.
It's worth the money and gives you what you want! Perfect image, perfect sound, perfect zoom, steady shot. I've had it for a year and I'm completely satisfied! I've been dealing with camcorders since 1999 and it's the best I've ever held in my hands!

Due to low fps, the image becomes blurry when we rotate the camera, even with slow movements.
AWAY!!!!!!!!!!! The model has a panning problem.... I have it, just like other YouTube users
exactly the same problem that appears in other users' videos. As soon as I upload them, I will also post them HERE.
The software upgrade DOES NOT solve the problem.... I guarantee it. I give it 1 star and that's because there is no option for 0.
I didn't expect this from SONY!!!!!
I bought this specific camera a month and a half ago and after almost six months of exhaustive analysis on websites, forums, etc. I was aware of all the issues mentioned by the first commenter and I had some concerns. No matter which stores I contacted (even Sony), they were unaware of the shaking issue when the camera is on a tripod (because this was being discussed very negatively)! One store told me that this has to do with different batches, in Greece the camera is selling very well and nothing has been reported. I eventually bought the camera and I have noticed the following:
- The image is the best in its category at the moment.
- The zoom is impressive and very useful.
- The stabilizer (Balanced Optical SteadyShot) is the best thing that has come out in recent years on this matter. You simply forget about shaky shots even in some shaky movements. It is considered a reason in itself to buy this specific camera.
- As for the tripod shaking issue, I didn't notice anything. Sony announced new software since last summer, which smoothed out this issue and I found that the camera I bought already had it installed! Obviously, the negative reports concern models that were released in early 2016 and are gradually "improved" through new software in newer batches. So, no problem.
Overall, it is a small body that covers every occasion exceptionally well. From the average user capturing family moments to the user capturing all kinds of events (from celebrations and speeches to mysteries), even for more sophisticated manual shooting, the results range from excellent to impressive. In terms of video recording of a theatrical performance with low lighting, it outperformed (and quite significantly) a professional camera of another brand that costs over 2,500 euros!
If you have the financial ability, do not hesitate to make the purchase!
Attention to anyone considering purchasing this specific model. Do not be swayed by reviews on YouTube. The image has a major issue when recording videos and turning it right-left due to the 25 fps (only). In static shots, the image is quite good, but any movement needs to be done VERY slowly in order for the blurring of the image to not be so intense. I researched the issue extensively, but unfortunately there is no solution. Another person I happened to meet on a forum also faces the same problem. I took it to the dealership initially thinking that the specific piece had a problem. They told me that there is nothing wrong and that in order to get a 4K camera that doesn't have this phenomenon, you would have to spend over 2500-3000 euros!!!!!!!!!!!! I believe it is still too early for an amateur 4K camera....a full HD with 60 fps is the best option......

A few days ago, I received the camera back from SONY's service with the same response: "There is no problem....it is within specifications." I sent an email to SONY's headquarters and asked for their response with the following text: "We confirm that after checking the video samples we received via email from our authorized representative company in Thessaloniki, 'ADEL TECH S.A.,' which were recorded with the SONY FDR AX-53 camcorder with Serial Number: 4729706, the device does not have any technical or other type of damage, therefore it is within specifications." The response I received was: "Following our communication, we inform you that based on the information we received from the authorized service ________, for the period from 14/11/2017 to 29/11/2017 when they received and examined your device, we confirm that in the SONY FDR AX-53 camcorder with Serial Number: 4729706, no damage or technical problem was found and the device is functioning within specifications.
