Description

Anna Laskari, descendant of the royal family of the Laskaris, is a doctor in Nicaea of Bithynia, the region that hosted the exiled capital of Romania after its destruction in 1204. Her brother, Eustathios Laskaris, is involved in a conspiracy against King Michael VIII Palaiologos.
Anna disguises herself as a eunuch doctor and settles in the City in order to unravel the case and save her brother from a lifetime of exile.
There, she meets the most cunning and powerful Etaireia of Constantinople, Zoe Chrysovergi. Zoe introduces her to the most prominent families of Constantinople but also exploits her by involving her in her intrigues.
Anna miraculously escapes every time! And miraculously, she will meet her brother and her future husband... Her life is intertwined with characters like Bernardo of Monte Cassino, Giralomo d'Ascoli, Ioannis Vekkos, King Michael VIII Palaiologos, and other historical and pseudo-historical figures. Intrigues, murders, political and religious conflicts, Charles of Anjou and the Sicilian Vespers, disrupt the personal lives of the heroes and determine their fate.
A portrayal of the desperate and hopeless effort of Romania to return to the good old days, unrepentant, reckless, brilliant but unable to correct its obvious weaknesses...
A screenplay written on the canvas of a historical novel with action and romance, strong friendships and heroic decisions that shaped the course of Greek and world history...
